We are fast approaching week 8 of term 1 so, a belated ‘Welcome back to all students”.  We have had a good start to the year with all classes working well.  Welcome back to all teachers – Valerie, Jane, Ellie and teacher trainee – Lily Warner!

Hamish McIntosh is enjoying his first term at NZ School of Dance.
Lauren Hammond and John Manville are settling in well at Unitec.
We welcome Lily Warner home.  Lily is working hard at preparing for her Pre Associate 1 and 2 Ballet and Associate Degree in November 2014.

June session.  The examiner is Mrs Wendy Cowan from the UK.  Our results from December last year were excellent so congratulations to all who sat.  Costs for June are:
Intermediate Ballet – $248
Intermediate Jazz – $248
Pre Associate 1 & 2 – $252 each separately or $240 if doing together.
These fees include music fee, exam day fee and entry fee.  NB:  all extra lessons will be invoiced separately and payable with 7 days of invoice.  If you are sitting an exam the extra lessons are compulsory and you are expected to attend them all.  Please see your teacher if you are unable to attend prior to the class (approximately 10 classes at $11 per class).

*Students sitting Intermediate Ballet June exam.  There is a Sunday 1pm class at no cost to prepare for this.  Intermediate Jazz June exam students will have additional classes 2nd week of school holidays – Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, 11am – 12.15pm.

NZ Dance Company Workshop – Tuesday 6th May, 6.30 – 8pm.  $20 per student.  Performance at Theatre Royal on Thursday 8th May at 1.15pm matinee and 7.30pm evening.  You must register and pay before last dancing day of term!  Cash or cash cheques only!

Java Dance Company Workshop at out studio on Wednesday, 28th & 29th May, 6 – 8pm.  Open to all seniors, it is a 2 day a contemporary workshop partnering repertoire and choreography.  Max. of 20 students.  $40 for the 2 days (must do both days).  You must register and pay your money before last dancing day of term!  Cash or cash cheques only!

**Winter School**
NZ School of Dance – 1st week of July school holidays.  Check information online at NZ School Dance.

**Footnote Performance & Workshop**
Footnote are coming to perform at The Suter during Nelson Heritage week.  April 14 & 15.  Please support these performances or they will stop coming to Nelson!  Please see your teacher if you are interested in attending a workshop.

This is an ongoing battle so the Studio has decided to go back to ‘paper’.
Term Fees – You will receive your enrolment form at the beginning of each term.  Please complete this in full (it is very difficult when over 50% come back half completed) together with payment (cash/cash cheque or direct debit information. Due the end of the first week of term at the latest.  The bottom of the form can be used as you receipt of payment.
Exam and Show Fees – A form will be issue as per term fees and payment is required with 7 days.

Exam Form 2013

2013 Exam Form <– Click to print the examination registration form, due this Friday.  There will be hard copies at the studio.   Holiday timetable for exams:

Second week of school holidays: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

  • 10.00 – 10.30am Grade 1 Ballet
  • 10.30 – 11.15am Grade 2 Ballet
  • 11.15 – 12.00pm Grade 3 and Grade 4 Ballet
  • 12.00 – 12.45pm Grade 6 Ballet
  • 12.45 – 2.15pm Grade 5 Modern Jazz (Thursday 4.15 class) and Intermediate Ballet
  • 2.15 – 3.45pm Intermediate Modern (Thursday 5pm class) and Advanced 1 Ballet
  • 3.45 – 5.15pm Advanced 1 Modern and Advanced 2 Ballet

*Students not sitting an exam are also welcome to attend these classes

Modern Jazz Medals: Optional for all Modern Jazz students – A great opportunity for students who may be new to dancing to get an idea of the exam process without the pressure of doing a whole grade exam. Great if you love performing! It is a test where students will perform two contrasting dances set by their teacher for the examiner in the December exam session. There is a $45 fee to sit the test and we will have one or two extra classes ($11 per class) prior to the test to rehearse the dances. If your child wishes to sit this test you will find the Bronze medal option on the examination entry form, please select it and hand in by Friday 27th September.

A reminder that ALL EXAM ENTRIES ARE DUE on this date.

Ballet & Modern Examinations

Exam registration forms will be at the Studio by the beginning of next week. Depending on entries, the approximate dates for exams is as follows:

  • all Ballet grades and any modern jazz grades – Oct/Nov 2013
    note: we cannot be more specific as the examiner coming out to NZ determines this.
    We will advise you as soon as we know.
  • Majors only – 7/8 December 2013

* Extra classes will start 2nd week of school holidays – Tues-Fri, 8–11 Oct 2013 and charged separately.
* Entries must be in by Friday 27 September 2013, last day of term.

Please make sure you think carefully before registering for exams. It is another big commitment and extra classes are compulsory and charged accordingly. (note additional class charges will be charged separately to exam fees). Please make sure you are clear on all requirements before registering for these exams.

All exam students: every day from Tues 9 Oct to Fri 12 Oct

  • 9am Intermediate Ballet
  • 10am Grade 5 Jazz
  • 10.45 Grade 4 Jazz
  • 11.30 Grade6 Ballet
  • 12.15 Grade5 Ballet
  • 1pm Ballet Grade 2 Jazz Grade1

As from this Wednesday Adv1 and Adv2 have a class at 6.30 till 7.30 (there will not be any cost for this class)

2012 Exams

Congratulations to everyone on the success of our fantastic Show. Students, parents and supporters making it possible for this all to happen! No time for a holiday as we get ready for exams. Mid to late October are the expected dates. Our examiner will be coming from the UK so these dates will be confirmed closer to the time. Think carefully before entering! A minimum of 6 extra lessons will be compulsory. These will be a Friday or Saturday or combining some classes during the week. See more details below. Please note: There is a no refund policy. Planning exams with overseas examiners is costly and once booked are unable to be changed!

Examinations will be mid to late October 2012. Registration forms with costs will be at the Studio by the beginning of next week. Please complete form and hand into your teacher together with payment by cheque or cash. As per usual any additional lessons are an extra cost. Students must attend all extra lessons. Keep your teacher informed of any commitment that might interfere with your attendance please.

Exam costs: all entries and payments are due by 31 August 2012.
