A long time teacher of the dance studio, holding a Fellowship teaching qualification in Modern Dance, my qualifications include the teaching of Modern Jazz and Contemporary. My professional development has been overseen by the International Dance Teachers Association of Great Britain who are now also associated with the Royal Academy of Dancing.
I have been teaching for over 20 years, and in that time developed a Stretch, Core-stability and Release Class that is suitable both for the dancer and non dancer. My Modern Dance Classes for Adults are a workout for body and mind and see loyal students returning year after year, providing older students with both recreational and performance opportunities.
Pre-school Dance is another area of expertise. Parents often comment on this popular class being the highlight of their child’s week.
I have taught itinerantly in the Nelson/Tasman/West Coast/Golden Bay areas in community education and schools, along with teaching dance classes for people with disabilities for 12 years.
Through my love of dance I have developed an appreciation of the human body and an understanding of its capabilities and limitations, enhanced by my study of Pilates and yoga. I am a certified and registered Pilates Instructor and run classes at the dance studio.
I believe that over the past two and a half decades the Peta Spooner Academy of Dance has provided a unique environment of safety and inclusion within the dance world. It allows for the recreational student attending once a week through to the advanced student wishing to study at tertiary level in pursuit of a professional career, providing a springboard for dance development with both national and international connections.
